How Garbage Detour Works

We have two marketplace scenarios at garbagedetour.com.

1. Post a Pickup ad. List the item you want to get rid of, along with some details and where to pick it up. 
2. Post a Wanted ad. List a normally discarded item you would gladly take off people’s hands, or trashcans, for free.  

Scenario 1: Post the stuff you want to get rid of

You have stuff that you want to get rid of (and you want nothing in exchange), but it could be used elsewhere. Examples are a cell phone, clothes, or a tire.

1. Create an account
2. Take a photo of your stuff.
3. Provide a description.
4. Let people know where they can pick it up.
5. Once the item is picked up, do everyone a favor and mark the item as “Gone” in your account. This will keep our postings fresh and prevent people from showing up at your location when you don’t have the stuff they are looking to grab.

Scenario 2: Post the items you want that people are willing to give away for free

1. Create an account.
2. Tell people about the item you are searching for and the desired condition. Add pictures. Post the ad.
3. People reach out to you with the item availability.
4. You pick up the item for free.

Ads are automatically deleted after two weeks.
